The 2024 McCall winter carnival will look different than past winter carnivals.

According to the McCall area chamber of commerce and visitors bureau, the 2023 Winter Carnival will be the last year of the "original" McCall Winter Carnival. Due to rapid growth and a combined housing and labor shortage in McCall, the Chamber of Commerce has decided to make some changes to the format of the 2024 Winter Carnival.

Based on the concerns of local businesses and looking at the city lodging tax collection over the last ten years to measure visitation levels that have more than tripled since 2013 by a whopping 201.5%. The decision was made to shorten the 2024 Carnival to a one-weekend (three-day) event and to move it to the last weekend in February.

The Winter Carnival brings more than 60,000 visitors on average.

The 2024 carnival will still include the known and loved events such as the parades, the sculpture contest, and of course the fireworks.

The 2023 Winter Carnival will still be held over the ten days of the last week of January through the first week of February (Jan. 27- Feb. 5). This year's theme will be "Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, and Tall Tales". It will also include the traditional events with the return of the Mardi Gras parade on the final weekend, the snow sculpture contest, and two firework shows with live music on the weekends.
